Cello Method

The first two volumes represent the 3 or 4 first years of learning the cello.
The first volume is thought out for children who do not know how to read music. It covers the non-extended first position. Notes are taught through gestures, with French popular songs, and rhythm is taught through bow length and speed.
The second volume covers all the neck positions, extended or not, backwards or forwards, as well as the harmonic note. Popular songs are the main musical material although numerous pieces by former cellists are included. Rhythm becomes more complex. Musical texts are short on purpose, to illustrate the drills. A repertoire of more consistant works (concertos, concertinos, chamber music...) is suggested.

In the third volume we move on to learning the positions, setting aside the red and blue points, thinking the students should know by now when moving the left thumb or not. We work on the half position, often confused with the first backwards extented position, and we work on the 6th position, the simplest of the intermediate positions.
The 3 volumes are published by Editions Lemoine, Paris.
